Face:
Unit 1

Plan:
-first wedge my clay and make sure there are no air bubbles
-then roll my wedged clay into an oval shape
-mold face shapes like the nose and mouth
-then slip and score the eyes and eyebrows
-smooth out the rest of the face
-hollow out the back to it is no thicker than my thumb
I think that my face actually went pretty well for it being my first time sculpting a face. I really enjoyed making this. The eyes are definitely not proportional to the nose and mouth, and I don't think I slipped and scored well enough. If I were to do it again, I would try my best to make it more symmetrical, and not make the eyes so big.
Unit 2
Double pinch pots cut in half

Plan:
-wedge clay
-roll clay into a ball
-pinch the center of the clay outward, creating a bowl type shape
-use clay cutter to split in half
This was my first attempt at the pinch pot, and I would say it went pretty well. I did not fire this though because the purpose of this project was mainly for practice. If I were to do this over again I would try to smooth out the edges a bit more.
Animal Sculpture

Plan:
-wedge clay
-roll clay in a cylinder type shape
-flatten the sides
-create tail
-add eyes
For the animal sculpture I wanted to make a stingray. I was very happy with how this
turned out, but unfortunately when I put it to be fired I never got it back. My plan was to paint and clear glaze it. If I were to do it again I would make it bigger and more realistic.
Stamp:

Plan:
-first roll the clay into a tube
-then flatten one side of the tube to create the stamp
-then carve out a sun into the flattened part of the stamp
I am overall pretty satisfied with how my stamp turned out. The
shape of the piece really looks like a stamp. I enjoyed making
this and I am excited to actually try out the stamp. If I were to do
this again, I would have chosen a more simple design so it
would've been easier to make symmetrical. I like the design I
chose though, I just think it looks a little messy, and so if I were
to try out the stamp it wouldn't come out very good.
Underglaze Design

Plan:
-first create a rectangle out of the clay
-next indent the sides, creating a tray
-once the clay hardens, paint starfish
This is one of my favorite pieces I have made so far. I really like the colors and designs I chose to paint on this. When making this, I wanted to make something cute, but also useful. My plan was to use this as a jewelry holder. If I were to do it over again, I would have tried to make the tray more symmetrical and less uneven on the sides. I also wish that I would have painted it all white before painting the starfish. Overall I really like this piece and I am excited to use it.
Useful Pinch Pot
.jpg)
Plan:
-wedge clay
-create two equal pinch pots
-attach legs and a head to one to great a turtle
I was really excited about making this piece, but it was a lot harder
than I thought. I ended up not firing this, because I was unhappy
with how it turned out. I would like to try again at this because I
I liked the idea. If I do this again, I would try to make
the two sides of the pinch pot more even.
Historically inspired
.jpg)
Plan:
-wedge clay
-create a rounded shape
-pinch the insides similar to the pinch pot to create a hollow
inside
-add handles
This piece is inspired by Greek vases. My goal was to try
and really capture the Greek art style. Overall, I am happy
with how this turned out. I had to redo the handles a couple
times because they kept falling off. If I could do this over again
I would probably try and make the vase more symmetrical.
I am unhappy with how it is tilting to one side.
